| Detailed Description for
Caribbean |
The Caribbean is history in the remaking. Designed originally by famed architect L. Murray Dixon as The Caribbean Hotel, it was built in 1941. The celebrities of the day, including members of the Rat Pack, frequented this glamorous oceanfront landmark. Today, the existing six-story building is being renovated into 35 ultra-luxury units, and a new 19-story south tower by Kobi Karp architects is being added that will provide 68 more luxury residences.
Once again The Caribbean will shine once its black granite façade is restored. Terrazzo floors in the lobby area, a hallmark of the Miami Beach area, are being refurbished. Penthouses will feature rooftop terraces and swimming pools.
Once again the bright light reflected off the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean will pour into the units, most of which will have ocean views. The condos looking west will take in Miami Beach, Indian Creek, Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.
Designer Christopher Ciccone, Madonna’s brother, is introducing designs to add sensual detail and celebrity flair. He has created environments for clients ranging from Madonna to Tony Bennett and Dolly Parton.
Units will take in the sea and sky through floor-to-ceiling windows. A closer experience of the ocean will be enjoyed on the generous terraces. Inside, all systems will be ready for the latest electronics. A wireless touchpad concierge panel is featured. Designer Italian kitchens with stone countertops will come with a choice of cabinetry. They will be fitted with top-notch appliances and will include a cappuccino maker and wine storage. Master baths will also allow for a choice of cabinets, wall tiles and floor tiles. Countertops will be of stone.
The location of The Caribbean is in the 37th Street and Collins Avenue neighborhood, part of the Historic District between South Beach and the Fontainebleau. This once-affluent area is experiencing a strong resurgence. New building and renovations are recreating the premiere status that it once enjoyed. Projects include the Mosaic, the Paradiso and Hotel Gansevoort, the Ritz Carlton residences and the Saxony. Once again, it’s a neighborhood to watch.
