Delay in South Pointe Park Development |
|
|

|
As all of you have probably heard through the
grapevine, the City of Miami Beach is planning on
investing more than 20 million dollars in the
development of the South Pointe Park where the
famous Smith and Wollensky restaurant sits. This
project will enhance the neighborhood and the park
will continue to be of public access. The project
might take up to 2 years till completion.
The bad news is that the city commission authorized
the city manager to seek new bids for the $20
million+ redevelopment of South Pointe Park. The
city attorney and the city manager had ruled that
the two bids received were not responsive to the
invitation to bid. In retrospect, the city has included
very stringent requirements for bidders to have
completed projects of similar or greater complexity
and scope. Even though more than forty bid
packages were picked up, only two firms bid. The
city administration intends to quickly seek rebids.
Additional firms may respond, with possible price
competitiveness.
